X cuff for the wrist. The letter x stands for everyone and no one at once. It unsettles me. How can a single form hold so much meaning, and yet remain almost empty? The x itself remains constant, almost untouched — like an unengraved sign, fixed and neutral. But around it, the metal shifts. Each casting produces a different excess, a surplus that forms unpredictably as the material is poured.

This surrounding mass can’t be controlled or repeated. It grows, spreads, withdraws. The x stays the same, but everything around it changes. It becomes a tension between permanence and accident, identity and distortion. A universal symbol held within something deeply singular.

Alizée Quitman works with metal to explore the body as something fluid, political, and resistant to fixed roles. Using techniques like hammering and upcycling, she transforms industrial materials into wearable sculptures that act as armor, talismans, and second skins.

Her pieces challenge traditional ideas of beauty and power, turning vulnerability into strength.
